Summary

In Maryland, the Department of Social Services (DSS) shares data with the Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) at the state level through formal inter-agency activities including a data dashboard through its statewide data system. There are also examples of data sharing and coordination for dual status youth at the local level in Maryland. DSS and DJS personnel can log into the statewide data dashboard to find out if youth have contact in the other system. The dashboard does not show history of involvement, but provides information if the youth has an open case in either system and the contact information of the respective DSS social worker or DJS case manager who is assigned the case. It also identifies dual status youth at intake. Case management is coordinated locally as both agencies share information and collaborate with each other about joint cases. Court coordination is only in the planning stages with one local court (Prince Georges County) meeting to consider a dual status court.
